Sonic Pieces is currently undergoing a big re-locating process, which is both exciting and nostalgic. Here you see Monique and her custom made work-bench. Since the start of the label in 2009 almost all the handmade CDs and vinyl went over this bench somehow. Some days ago it left for new adventures with new people. Sometimes it can be good with a new start. So we embrace change with everything that comes with it. And more change is to come. Keep watching this space through the year, as new pieces will fall into place.
Sonic Pieces founder Monique Recknagel was recently asked to join for a 2 hour special at James Heather´s Moving Sounds radio show while visiting London for the 10 year anniversary.

We´re happy to finally be able to offer two beautiful new releases. Coincidentally they are both connected to the art world and were recorded at museums variously in Copenhagen and Leuven.
We like We return to the Pattern series, this time together with Jacob Kirkegaard. Time is Local is based around a 12h live performance / installation at the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen. The record can be seen as a study of time and space and is one of the most minimal sounding works in our discography.
After a 6 years hiatus we finally continue our 7″ series Seven Pieces. It was not our intention to keep that long gap between releases, but the 7″ is a challenging format to find the right music for. However it´s with great pleasure that we can offer Piece Five in form of Christina Vantzou´s composition Six Cellos for Sol LeWitt, performed at the M-Museum in Leuven, Belgium 2012.
Deaf Center spotted in Copenhagen this August, a rare chance to see them in bright colors. The guys will soon be on the road playing a few shows through Europe. Their new album “Low Distance” was out earlier this year.

After our 10 year celebration in Berlin, we head to Brussels to attend the BRDCST festival in April. Here it will be a Sonic Pieces exhibition hanging at the Ancienne Belgique Café during the month of April. Then on the 4th, a label night will take place in the unique environment of the superbly restored art nouveau Foyer Hamesse, in arthouse-cinema Palace (opposite AB) where Deaf Center, We like We and Rauelsson will perform. More info and tickets for this > here
Erik K Skodvin and Otto A Totland have been a big part of Sonic Pieces over the years, and we are very happy to see them re-unite as Deaf Center for a new full-length album. The record is called “Low Distance” and will be released in March. More on this soon. Meanwhile, a first track of the album entitled “Movements / The Ascent” is already available digitally on all platforms : Bandcamp – Boomkat – Spotify – Itunes
Sonic Pieces is 10. Look out for pop-up events and label-nights throughout the year. We start by celebrating in Berlin at one of our favourite venues, ausland on Feb. 20th. Monique already organised a show there excatly 10 years earlier, just before Sonic Pieces was officially started as a label, so we couldn´t think of a better date and place to kick off this 10th anniversary year. More info about this will be coming at our mi-so event section.
After a quiet 2nd half of 2018, we´re happy to re-start with a new website. We wanted to keep it minimal and colourful, in spirit of what Sonic Pieces is about. It now includes all info about releases and editions, and you can easily see what´s available from us. There are still features to be added, which will come gradually through the year. The site is built by BrokenDisk & designed by Miasmah.
